Work Experience 2025

So brings to an end another successful year of work experience across Devon and Cornwall. With five weeks of programmes run across the force and approximately a hundred year 10 students taking part, this has been our largest experience yet.

With applications having been open since September, hundreds of students applied to take part in the unique workplace placement where they learn and engage with the vast number of roles across the force, from frontline officers through to civilian support functions, students were able to find out how they might best fit into the policing family.

With students unable to take part in frontline activities, the force brings the experience to them with lots of talks, scenarios, team building exercises and presentations. Students are often unaware of the vast range of roles and across the week often reconsider where their own personal skills fit in best. We ask a lot of the students, to genuinely engage in the activities to ensure that they get the best out of the week they spend with us, but we also ensure that there are fun elements too, making sure that they feel part of this large family of ours.

The feedback this year has been a real joy and it has been rewarding for our staff who lead on the week to know that they have made an impact on the young people. It makes such a big difference knowing that we are potentially seeing our future police officers and that this programme helped pave the way for their entry into Devon and Cornwall Police.

So here we are at the end of one experience, but it is only the beginning of the next one. Dates for our programmes next year will be available on the force website from late September and students will be able to apply through their schools existing work experience structure. For us, the planning starts now, ensuring that our next group of students will receive a great work experience programme and that we continue to encourage young people to join us.
