CAP UK – Child Assault Prevention

Safeguarding

CAP UK (Child Assault Prevention Project) is a community project in Devon that brings parents/carers, school staff and children together to understand how to effectively reduce children’s vulnerability to child abuse and build safer communities for children.

CLEAR and Secure

Safeguarding

CLEAR and Secure is a new service that has been developed by CLEAR, to offer support to young people at risk of or affected by sexual exploitation. There are limited services available in Cornwall for young people with these experiences and CLEAR recognised the need to include this type of intervention in its portfolio, working alongside other partner agencies. We have now been awarded funding to support the new CSE team.

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Safeguarding Children Partnership

Safeguarding

Cornwall Council and the Council of the Isles of Scilly, in exercising their social care functions, are responsible for ensuring there is a Safeguarding Children Partnership (SCP) covering their area, to bring together representatives of each of the main agencies and professionals responsible for helping to protect children from abuse and neglect. The SCB is an inter-agency forum for agreeing how the different services and professional groups should co-operate to safeguard children in the area, and for making sure that arrangements work effectively to bring about good outcomes for children. Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility. The information on this website is relevant to those working in the statutory or independent sectors, as well as to members of the wider community. It applies to all children and young people irrespective of whether they are living at home with their families and carers or away from home.

Counter Extremism – Narratives and Conversations

Safeguarding

Extremism is not a new topic in education, but schools have a relatively new statutory duty to pay “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. In response to this challenging and serious new responsibility, LGfL has worked with leading extremism experts specialising in ISIS and the far right to provide information, insights and advice to help schools navigate this difficult area.

Devon Children and Families Partnership (DSCB)

Safeguarding

The new website contains a wealth of information for anyone in Devon who has responsibility for safeguarding children; including parents, carers, teachers, doctors and volunteers. There are dedicated sections for children and young people, workers and volunteers and parents and carers that aim to supply information on key issues. The website also has a library where you can download important documents and reports. The website has been built for all partners involved in safeguarding children. It will be updated regularly with local, regional and national news, events and campaigns.

Dorset Safeguarding Children Board

Safeguarding

Dotcom Foundation

Bullying, Diversity, Health, Safeguarding

Dot Com Children’s Foundation helps children develop the knowledge and confidence they need to make good decisions in life, especially about their own safety. We are committed to empowering children. We are dedicated to building children’s self-worth and values to ensure they reach their full potential. From child sexual abuse to gang culture to online safety, children can be exposed to many different risks every single day. It is impossible for parents and teachers to be with children all the time: they must have the means to protect themselves.

Early Intervention Foundation

Safeguarding, Youth Organisations

We are an independent charity and What Works Centre which champions and supports the use of effective early intervention for children with signals of risk.

Educate against Hate

Prevent, Safeguarding

The purpose of this website is to provide practical advice, support and resources to protect children from extremism and radicalisation. Anyone can be vulnerable to extremism and radicalisation, but children are particularly at risk. As they grow and become more independent, it is not unusual for them to take risks, explore new things and push boundaries. Teenage years are often a time when young people will be searching for answers to questions about identity, faith and belonging, as well as looking for adventure and excitement.

Internet Watch Foundation

Online Safety, Safeguarding

Our vision is the global elimination of child sexual abuse imagery online. The IWF was established to fulfil an independent role in receiving, assessing and tracing public complaints about child sexual abuse content on the internet and to support the development of website rating systems. Since we were set up in 1996 we have been operating a Hotline service for the public to report potentially criminal content and we have been issuing ‘takedown notices’ to UK ISPs in partnership with the police so they can remove the content.

Just for Kids Law

Safeguarding, Youth Organisations

Listen to my story

Safeguarding

Sometimes it can be difficult to spot the signs of whether you are being exploited, but if you or someone you know has been asked to do sexual things in return for something then they may have been sexually exploited, even if the person who did it was a friend, boyfriend or girlfriend.

My Dangerous Loverboy

Safeguarding

My Dangerous Loverboy is a pioneering campaign raising awareness of the sexual exploitation of vulnerable young people. With 64 children being abused every day, Child Sexual Exploitation is a very real danger that is often hidden from plain sight. We believe that through the training of professionals working with children and the deliverance of high quality PSHE education to young people, a greater awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation can be achieved.

Stop Abuse for Everyone

Family, Safeguarding

Domestic violence and abuse is a serious problem here in Devon, across the UK and around the world. Victims and their families remain at the heart of everything we do. Our services are centred on their goals, strengths and needs; and we will strengthen our approach to keep victims and their families safe and to live their lives free from future violence.

Stop CSE

Safeguarding

35% of all recorded sexual crimes in England and Wales in 2012/13 (53,540 overall) were child sexual exploitation of under 16s. More than one in three of the children sexually abused by an adult kept their horrific secret to themselves. Four out of five children who experienced sexual contact from someone they knew were too terrified to tell. That’s where we come in. We help over 530 organisations, reaching thousands of professionals all determined to give the right support for victims, and ultimately to one day stop CSE from ever happening again.

The Hideout

Resource for young people in a refuge.

The Survivors Trust

Safeguarding

The Survivors Trust (TST) is a UK-wide national umbrella agency for 130 specialist organisations for support for the impact of rape, sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse throughout the UK and Ireland. Rape and sexual abuse can be committed against anyone regardless of their age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, culture or social status. Living with the consequences of rape and sexual abuse can be devastating. At TST, we believe that all survivors are entitled to receive the best possible response to their needs whether or not they choose to report.

The Truth Project

Safeguarding

The Truth Project was set up for victims and survivors of child sexual abuse to share their experiences in a supportive and confidential setting. It’s part of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) which was set up in 2015 to investigate organisations and institutions that have failed to protect children from sexual abuse. We need to understand the past to help protect children now and in the future. By sharing their experiences, victims and survivors make an important contribution to the work of the Inquiry and their experiences will feed into and influence our findings and recommendations.

Trauma Informed UK Schools

Safeguarding

Our vision is to provide appropriate training for schools, communities and organisations so that they become trauma informed and mentally healthy places for all. This means we aim to help children and teenagers BEFORE they get mental health problems – to catch them as they are falling not after they have fallen. Towards this aim we strongly endorse the statement in the Government Green Paper December 2017 Transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health Provision, “ There is evidence that appropriately-trained and supported staff such as teachers, school nurses, counsellors, and teaching assistants can achieve results comparable to those achieved by trained therapists in delivering a number of interventions addressing mild to moderate mental health problems (such as anxiety, conduct disorder, substance use disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder)”. We are appropriately training school staff to take on this task.

Diversity, Safeguarding

We hope that one day our work is no longer needed. That by working in partnership with communities, business, governments and other organisations we can stamp out slavery for good. But while there are victims of trafficking, we want to be here to offer them the safety, hope and choice they deserve. The UK’s 24/7 Modern Slavery Helpline is also an excellent means of accessing information and advice. Potential victims, statutory agencies, frontline professionals, businesses and members of the public can call 08000 121 700 for specialist support and guidance.
